RU-486
A Better Sex Definition: RU-486 is an oral contraceptive method effective in terminating a pregnancy following conception. It is known in France and Europe as RU 486 and may be an oral dose of mifepristone or an injection of methotrexate. Either drug is taken in conjunction with misoprostol, a prostaglandin usually given as a suppository. This early abortion method has been widely tested across the world, including the U.S. where it is now legal. It is most often used 30 - 35 days after the last menstrual period when the amniotic sac is visible on an ultrasound. When approved, U.S. protocols would exclude women with the following conditions from early drug-induced abortions: pregnancy over 49 days, suspected ectopic pregnancy, long-term steroid use, chronic adrenal failure, kidney and liver disorders, smokers over the age of 35, severe asthma or hypertension, blood clotting disorders and anemia.
