Questions on Anal Play:

Q:
When a man pushes hard into me in my vagina sometimes I have a little bowel movement. It embarrasses me so much. I'm afraid with anal sex it will even be worse. Is there anything I can do to stop this or at least make it better?

Q:
Hello, I am a 39 year old female and in my sexual prime. I enjoy experimenting and I like anal sex, however I always have the feeling that I may defecate while performing this. How is it the porn stars do it with no problem??? Help!

Dr. Lori's Answer:
Many men and women enjoy anal sex. The vagina and rectum share the same wall, and the anus is loaded with lots of pleasurable nerve endings… and it’s oh so naughty and taboo.

When planning to have anal sex, there are things you can do to insure that it will be a pleasurable experience as well as eliminating any cause for the concerns mentioned above. First, make sure you have had a complete bowel movement before having anal sex and your rectum will be clean and clear, eliminating any worries of “defecating” during your sexual encounter.

Other important things to keep in mind when having anal sex are safety and lubrication. Make sure that you are very aroused and relaxed before attempting anal penetration. You may want to start with anilingus and/or a finger to prepare and relax your sphincter muscles. Go slowly and communicate with your partner to let him or her know when you are experiencing pleasure or need him or her to slow down. Sex (anal or otherwise) should never hurt.

Use plenty of sexual lubricant. I recommend a silicone based lube since water based lubes tend to dry out quicker. Use a condom and never put anything that has been in your anus in your vagina before thoroughly washing it with warm water and soap or you could end up with a nasty infection. To learn more I recommend Sinclair’s Guide to Anal Sex .
